Yasmin White Earns Masters From University of Bristol

Fri, February 11, 2005

Too many students and parents in Montserrat have given up on the education system but they should take an example from Educational Officer Yasmin White.

While working in England as an officer in charge of curriculum and examinations, and as a local registrar, she attended the University of Bristol in Great Britain.

She recently received her Masters in Education management and policy studies, after studying for one year in a challenging and extensive program. She also called the program “very rewarding.”

While attending university Miss White was the student representative for her pathway, which then led to more interaction with her teachers, and other faculty members.

Miss White said she had many people to thank for her strength to finish her degree, first and foremost was almighty God, since she prayed a lot. Her family and friends also gave her encouragement to continue.

Miss White would also like to give her thanks to the Government for awarding her this scholarship; the Ministry of Education, former principal of Montserrat Secondary School Mrs. Kathleen Greenaway, former Director of Education Mrs. Oeslyn Jemmott and her ”rock” in London, Mrs./Mr. Carol and Peter Galloway.

She added that the students should take advantages of the situation that Montserrat has to offer and that Montserrat still has one of the finest education systems in the world.
