The athletes were provided with free vision, dental, and hearing screenings at the Caribbean Special Olympics Games in Kingston Jamaica this July 2004. The Lions Club International Opening Eyes Programme provided the glasses to athletes.
The Opening Eyes Programme optimises the athlete's vision, eye health, and visual skills through quality eye care. Objectives of Opening Eyes include providing screenings to Special Olympics Athletes worldwide, educating athletes, parents and coaches about the importance of regular eye care, and increasing knowledge of visual and eye health needs of persons with intellectual disabilities though research.
