As a regular visitor to Monserrat I was intrested
in the above article.
When in Monserrat we stay in Woodlands with friends
and go to the beach daily I admit that sometimes there
are some litter there and the toilets and showers
are not in brilliant condition, but on a whole I have
never found it to be really bad. It would be nice
for an organisation to take responsibility for the
beaches up-keep. I usually litterpick the rubbish
myself and my friend does when we find it, and 2 years
ago my husband made some safer steps down to the sand,
as the others had been destroyed by the National Trust
I believe, as they were dangerous, making the it more
dangerous!
As tourists I agree that these things must be sorted
to make Montserrat more desirable.( I overlook these
issues as I love Montserrat and it is always beautiful
in my eyes!)
We shall be returning in May for 2 weeks and I look
forward to continuing to do little projects like helping
with the planting and tidying up of the triangle on
Mango Drive which my friend adopted and keeps maintained
and litterpicking Runaway Gaunt ( we collected 6 bags
full last time after reading a letter in the reporter
from a tourist complaining about litter ), maybe we
can do some other projects to help, just let us know!
Thanks Jane & Jason Ushwell
